Local Community Initiatives (LCI) Economic and Market Analysis

East Point, GA

The City of East Point secured an Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) grant to update their 2012 LCI study for the City’s downtown area adjacent to the East Point MARTA station. RKG Associates worked with Cooper Carry, an internationally renowned architecture and urban design firm, to identify any changes in the market and provide an updated implementation strategy. The intent of the analysis was to stimulate investment in the downtown area while making a market connection between hospitality activity on Willingham Drive and the Downtown Core.

RKG Associates's report concluded that the City needed to take a more phased approach to stimulating investment in the Downtown study area, beginning with the area locally known as the Fairgrounds.  The analysis indicated that a public private partnership-type of development that formalized the community’s gathering place with additional housing and retail activity would catalyze additional investment in the surrounding area.
